The Volkswagen Golf was first unveiled in 1974. It was unbelievable that the conservative Volkswagen came up with such a car.
The Golf was very modern thanks to Giugiaro's styling and the technical layout: the transverse engine in the front with front-wheel drive, instead of an air-cooled engine in the rear.
Volkswagen was not the first to do this, but it did set the tone in the class.
The VW Golf was a lot more modern than Opel with its Kadett and the Ford Escort, which still rode on leaf springs, with a rigid rear axle and rear-wheel drive.
The Golf I was produced from 1974 to 1983. In 1976 the 1st GTI and 1st diesel (1.5) appeared, in 1978 the 1st convertible and the 1st GTD.
The Golf II is the successor and was in production until 1992. The Golf Cabrio II was not manufactured, the Golf I continued to be produced as a convertible.

This car that we offer is a Volkswagen Golf I Cabriolet from the 5th month of 1987. The car is equipped with the 1800 engine in the GL version.

In 1974 werd de Volkswagen Golf voor het eerst onthuld. Dat het conservatieve Volkswagen met een dergelijke auto kwam was ongelooflijk.
De Golf was zeer modern dankzij de styling van Giugiaro en de technische layout: de motor dwars voorin met voorwielaandrijving, in plaats van een luchtgekoelde motor achterin.
Volkswagen was hier niet de eerste mee, maar het zette wel de toon in de klasse.
De VW Golf was een stuk moderner dan Opel met zijn Kadett en de Ford Escort, die nog rondreden op bladveren, met starre achteras en achterwielaandrijving.
De Golf I werd geproduceerd van 1974 – 1983. In 1976 verscheen de 1e GTI en 1e diesel (1.5), in 1978 de 1e cabrio en de 1e GTD.
De Golf II is de opvolger en is in productie tot 1992.De Golf Cabrio II wordt niet gefabriceerd, de Golf I werd als cabrio verder geproduceerd.
